Working meeting between Valery Lebeda and Hannu Himanen held at Mayor’s Office last Friday.
As it was mentioned by Finland delegates, Khabarovsk favorably impressed them as a cultural, sport and tourist center, and what’s more important, as an attractive place for investment and production development. The Finnish investors are going to make their first investments in the local shipbuilding. The Finnish diplomats and specialists paid a visit to Khabarovsk shipbuilding plant. The foreign manufacturers and businessmen found excellent perspectives for its modernization and development based on technologies, by which Finnish shipbuilders have been known for many years.
“Khabarovsk is the third and the last stage of our trip around the Far East. We have already seen Vladivostok and Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk. The impressions are very positive. In our delegation there are representatives of business, to be precise, of eight Finnish companies specialized on arctic and sea shipbuilding and technologies connected, as well as those involved in Oil&Gas industry. We visited Khabarovsk Shipbuilding Plant, and our specialists have already developed a set of interesting and mutually-beneficial initiatives to modernize and develop this enterprise. There are also other industries where we could cooperate: city development, education, healthcare, in case the other party is interested. We are located so far away from each other, but we have possibilities to successfully develop partnership links in various directions”, - mentioned Mr. Hannu Himanen.
In the course of dialogue both parties stressed several times that in spite of geographical distance, Khabarovsk and Finland have many things in common: similar climate, traditions and passion for hockey – a Finnish coach used to work for Khabarovsk hockey team “Amur”, and now there are hockey players from this country here, this is why the Finnish funs have heard a lot about Far Eastern capital and its sportsmen.
Summing up the results of the meeting, the Vice Mayor of Khabarovsk, Valery Lebeda said: “We do really have many things in common. There is a real sense for working together. Right now our Shipbuilding plant has a lack of orders, which is a problem. We have had a fruitful meeting and came to a decision that together with Finnish partners we are going to discuss production modernization and that possible business portfolio, which could be implemented at this plant. Jointly we are going to develop measures which will make the enterprise competitive and able to meet the region needs. The delegation is in a good working and positive mood. And we feel the same, so, we will continue cooperating”.
